Winners announced for the 2019 CRS Collegiate Challenge powered by Walmart<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Penn State Abington\nwins competition<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council for Retail\nand Sales<\/a> (CRS) took the \u201cShark Tank\u201d television show concept and applied\nit to a regional collegiate competition in retailing and sales on Oct. 17 at\nthe Lehigh Valley campus. Undergraduate teams from two-year and four-year\ncolleges were eligible. Each team was tasked with providing recommendations on how\nto grow Walmart\u2019s eCommerce sales. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStudent involvement in these competitions prepare them for\nthe exciting world of retail,\u201d said James R. (Doc) Ogden, co-chair of CRS,\nnoting the talent and determination of the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The judges of the competition were from Walmart, including:\nNicole Everett, market manager; Larry Murphy, market eCommerce manager; Joanne\nZahran, market human resources manager; Adam Vutech, store manager; and Marvin\nFaison, market fresh operations manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe competition\u2019s a tremendous way to help students go from\nthe classroom and help solve real world problems,\u201d said Denise Ogden, co-chair\nof CRS and professor of marketing at Penn State Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven teams competed in the event. The first-place\nwinners were from Penn State Abington. The team took home a traveling trophy to\nbe housed at their campus until next year\u2019s challenge. These winners also received\n$1,000 from Walmart.  The second-place\nteam received $400 from Walmart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was a great opportunity that I was hesitant to try at first,\nbut now that I did, I am happy I gave it a try.\u201d said Moshe, a student from Penn\nState Abington. \u201cIt was the best thing for me to prepare for the business world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning teams were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st place \u2013 Penn State Abington Team 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
