{"id":735,"date":"2020-04-29T17:09:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T17:09:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecrs.org\/?p=735"},"modified":"2020-04-29T17:16:25","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T17:16:25","slug":"penn-state-lehigh-valley-wins-council-for-retail-and-sales-crs-regional-online-case-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecrs.org\/?p=735","title":{"rendered":"Penn State Lehigh Valley wins Council for Retail and Sales (CRS) Regional Online Case Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"655\" src=\"https:\/\/thecrs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Photo_1st-place-1024x655.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecrs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Photo_1st-place-1024x655.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/thecrs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Photo_1st-place-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thecrs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Photo_1st-place-768x491.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thecrs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Photo_1st-place.jpg 1035w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>The winning team answers questions from the judges via a Zoom session.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Center\nValley \u2013 Apr 27, 2020.&nbsp; The Council for\nRetail and Sales regularly holds collegiate case competitions, but this week\u2019s\ncompetition was the first held virtually.&nbsp;\nDue to the coronavirus pandemic, the regularly scheduled case\ncompetition which was to be powered by Clemens\/Hatfield, was replaced with an\nentirely virtual experience.&nbsp; The case\nposed the question, \u201cHow can retailers adapt to the economic landscape in light\nof the COVID-19 pandemic?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncompetition, normally held on the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus, invited\nundergraduate teams consisting of 3-4 students from any university to\ncompete.&nbsp; Five teams competed, including\nstudents from Penn State Lehigh Valley, Penn State Abington, and Bloomsburg\nUniversity.&nbsp; Each team submitted a 2-page\nexecutive summary and a 5-8-minute video presentation.&nbsp; The competition culminated in a Q&amp;A\nsession with 8 judges representing retail companies throughout the Lehigh\nValley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The judges of the\ncompetition were: Nicole Everett from Walmart, Kiersten Hafer from the National\nPork Board, Mike Krajsa from KRA, Geoff Gutgold from GGA Global, Karen Debard\nfrom Martino Marketing, Kermit Burley from Penn State University, Kecia\nSturdivant from the Kutztown University SBDC, and Keith McIlvaine from IBM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MakePizza\nConsulting, representing PSU Lehigh Valley, was the winning team and will\nreceive $800. \u201cThank you all so much. I personally cannot stop smiling and I am\nproud to bring such an accomplishment to Penn State Lehigh Valley,\u201d said Simon\nTomaszewski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second-place team, YMCA\nfrom Bloomsburg University, will be awarded $300<a>.&nbsp; <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe students, even in these difficult circumstances,\nwere amazing and I know that I had a difficult time judging everyone as they\nwere all very good.&nbsp; This was a terrific\nevent and makes me proud to be a part of CRS and PSU-LV,\u201d said Kermit Burley,\nCoordinator of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winning teams were as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1st place \u2013 Penn State Lehigh Valley: Team MakePizza Consulting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adviser: Dr. Denise Ogden<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgia Gonzalez<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hemil Patel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ben Stratz<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simon Tomaszewski<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2nd place&nbsp;\u2013 Bloomsburg University: Team YMCA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adviser: Dr. Thomas Tanner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samantha Altopiedi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Autumn McGrath<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew Tanner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morgan Yobst<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Center Valley \u2013 Apr 27, 2020.&nbsp;
